The brief
An independent short with no client and no brief — made to carry a story on image and sound alone, with an animal as the subject and no dialogue to lean on.
The approach
Shot at dusk on long glass wide open, with the camera dropped to ground level so the world is seen from the animal's eyeline. Depth of field is held razor-thin — the subject sits in focus while the path and treeline dissolve into bokeh, which isolates it in open space without needing a set or a crew.
My role
Directed, shot, colour graded and produced — an independent piece made outside any commercial engagement.
Working with an animal means the schedule follows the subject, not a shot list — so the film was built to shoot long and cut later. The grade pulls saturation down and cools the whole frame into muted blue-green, keeping a little warmth only in the ground, which lets a black subject stay readable against dark surroundings instead of crushing into it. Cutting favours held shots and lets moments run past the point a commercial edit would trim, and the soundtrack carries the film where there is no dialogue at all.
