The brief
A short film for Al Eker Charitable Society — a narrative piece rather than an appeal video, carrying the society's work through a single character instead of narration over footage.
The approach
Shot almost entirely at night and built around practical light — fluorescent tubes and doorway spill — so the frame stays in deep shadow and the subject reads against it. Anamorphic-width 2.39:1 framing throughout, with the camera held still and low to let performance rather than movement carry the scene.
My role
Directed, shot, colour graded and produced. The look was set on set through lighting, then finished in the grade rather than corrected in it.
The film lives in low-key interiors: a narrow alley, a lit corridor, a room holding a single reading light. Cool cyan practicals sit against warm amber from doorways and lamps, and the grade holds that split rather than neutralising it — shadows stay dense and detail is allowed to fall away. Coverage is deliberately restrained; most beats play in a static wide or a slow push, so cuts land on performance instead of camera moves. Sound is kept close and sparse, with room tone carrying the quiet stretches. Finished and delivered in 2.39:1.
