“Aya wa Hidaya” — Ramadan Show Promo
Cinematographer Art Direction 3D Colourist VFX & Chroma Key Ramadan programme
The brief
A promo for “Aya wa Hidaya”, a Ramadan programme built around a presenter and a viewer competition. The piece had to introduce the host, the format and the seasonal register in one short run.
The approach
The presenter was shot on green and keyed into a built environment rather than filmed on a physical set — which allowed an ornamental world of Arabic calligraphy, carved frames and lattice to be modelled and lit in 3D around him. The palette holds to a single deep green with gold and warm wood as the only accents, so the promo reads as seasonal without leaning on literal Ramadan iconography.
My role
Videography, art direction, 3D, colour grade, VFX and chroma keying.
Keying a presenter into a built world only holds if the plate and the environment agree, so the shoot was lit to the intended key from the start rather than corrected afterwards — edge light on the shoulders and headwear matching the direction of the modelled sources. The 3D frame surrounding him carries real depth and falloff instead of sitting flat behind the key, and the grade was run last across both layers together so skin, calligraphy and background share one response rather than reading as separate passes stacked on top of each other.
